DISTRIBUTING GRANTS TO LOCAL NON-PROFITS IN ORDER TO:

TEACH EFFECTIVE GIVING

PROCESS

As a class, we were tasked with studying and analyzing nine collaborative grants from non-profits in the Knoxville area. From those nine, the class chose five groups to consider for funding from a $30,000 grant.

STUDENTS

This is first and foremost a learning process. This is a regular class with regular students from very different backgrounds, studies, and colleges. We want to document what the students think and how our thinking about philanthropic giving has changed.

ABOUT US

We are 28 students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville interested in growing our understanding of nonprofit leadership, philanthropic giving, and how to be effective change-makers in the global community.

During the course of this class taught by Dr. Alex Miller through Haslam College of Business, we will study multiple cases of nonprofits, discuss the successes and failures, and learn about healthy ways to change and build a nonprofit. Most importantly, we are partnering with the Learning By Giving Foundation in order to learn how to be effective philanthropic givers. Through their foundation and local entrepreneurs, we will award local nonprofits grants adding up to $30,000.

Conformance bias… all humans do it.

You will convince yourself of the truth, whether it is reality or not.

And that’s another reason why we need diversity”
